intend to pursue the principles contained within the now ten-year general document, the Fishing Charter, which is still in force, and, at the same time, propose some basic lines of action for the near future, on the occasion of the general update of the plans of fishing management by the Autonomous Province of Trento by the year 2011.
As is known, our associations are formally owners of the concession of fishing permits on the respective provincial territories; otherwise they manage - as renters, foster or contractors - exclusive historical fishing rights recognized by the Province to local communities. On the basis of the principles of the provincial law on fishing, as fish farmers we manage the public fish stocks in the interests of the fishermen our associates and the whole community, ensuring their preservation over time, improvement and restoration through activities of restocking and rehabilitation of aquatic environments, the sustainable use towards amateur fishing and enhancement for social and tourist opportunities.
Nowadays, after more than thirty years of application of the provincial law on fishing, and despite the need for certain functional adjustments, it is possible to say that we still strongly agree on the regulatory approach of the 1978 Act, which gives the Province a technical role through the Fishing Charter - a role shared with the associations through the Provincial Committee of Fisheries - and a role of financial support of fisheries management, giving the regional fishermen's associations a subsidiary role of direct management and, of course, the spreading of aquaculture on public waters.
